According to ancient Scottish legend the wearing of natural gemstone would "repress melancholie, overcome childish fears and drive away evil spirits".
Our "Scotch Pebble" brooches are highly evocative of authentic originals in the care of various Scottish Museums and private collectors. The popularity of this style reached its peak in the late 1800's largely due to the patronage of Queen Victoria.
Design inspiration for many of the "Scotch Pebble" pieces has been drawn from notable historical artifacts, including the 'Columba Pillow' and the renowned Hunterston brooch now in the care of the Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh.
Originally they incorporated agate, bloodstone, carnelian, granite, jasper or marble; from such sources as Ayrshire, Ross of Mull, Isle of Iona, Isle of Skye and Sutherland. Our hand-formed and polish natural pebble gemstones continue in this tradition.
The natural colours reflect the hues of the bens and glens... no two pieces are identical. |
